The Joys of Rhinebeck September 29, 2007

Posted by lunarawe in plus size, Ravelry, Rhinebeck, sweater.

As I read and learn about Rhinebeck I get more and more excited. One of the best things about being on Ravelry has been the information and excitement about this face to face gathering of fiber fiends!

I can’t wait.

Today I signed up for Rhinebeck Blogger Bingo. If you are going to be there you must sign up! Oh the madness! Oh the artichokes! OK, that has nothing to do with bingo but I am salivating already.

I am also looking for good suggestions about identifiers for folks seeking me out. We have a few weeks. How am I supposed to know what I will be wearing? Hmmm… my hair definitely is a give away. We shall have to think about this one. Those really searching can find a pic of me buried somewhere in the archives of this blog. Not too terribly deep. Kind of like a treasure hunt!

I am hoping to wear my Lift and Separate Sweater. But it is growing slowly as endless yards of stockinette always seem to do. We are progressing slowly up the back. I love this fabric in 100% alpaca. It is deliciously soft and has a fabulous drape. Who can beat pomegranate tones for fall?

Hopefully it will get some air time in upstate NY. See you at Rhinebeck!

Succumbing to the Tag September 23, 2007

Posted by lunarawe in stitching witches, tag.

I have to admit that I have been tagged once before. And resolutely ignored it. Possibly with some attitude. I am not sure why the blogging equivalent of a chain letter bugged me so much, but it did. So I moved on.

But then I got tagged again. By Crow Calling Woman. How could I ignore a sister Crafter? So I am succumbing to the tag. Here are the rules.

1. Link to your tagger and post rules

2. Share 7 facts about yourself, some random and some weird

3. Tag 7 people at the end of post and list their names

4. Let them know they were tagged by a comment on their blog

OK, OK here we go. Though how I am ever going to come up with seven random or weird things… yeah… ok. Never mind. *laugh*

1. I have a bizarrely strong sense of smell. This is lovely when I am in a rose garden and horrible pretty much every where else. Even the smells folks use to smell nice can be cloying and overwhelming.

2. I am an ordained Unitarian Universalist minister. Not that this is bizarre, but many folks seem unable to connect witch and minister in the same sentence. Believe me, we are out there.

3. Using my spinning wheel makes me hot. I am pretty sure this is an energetic phenomenon and not simply being so out of shape that pedaling gently brings me to the point of overheating.

4. I have a cousin who is a vocalist and I am hugely proud of her! Also not weird, but worth mentioning. Check her out.

5. Cooked onions are my favorite food. Not on their own of course, but in other things.

6. Even cutting scallions makes me cry. I am forever looking for other people to cut my onions for me.

7. I have a security pillow. Really. His name is Pilly. He has been around for a while. We love the Pilly.

Seven folks to tag. That is like a bizarre sort of power.

Lift and Separate September 17, 2007

Sounds terribly suggestive, doesn’t it? Let me reassure you… it is.

First and foremost the requisite pitiful attempt to justify where I have been during my weeks of silence. I do think I had a pretty good excuse this time… the dreaded horror of moving. Not only did I move, but I landed in Orlando, FL where it seems like fiber crafters have to justify their very craftiness. That said, they seem to be a dedicated bunch. I am very much looking forward to knitting, spinning, and weaving guild meetings.

I have begun my first knitting-with-a-deadline project in a long time. Why the insanity? Because I want something fun to wear at Rhinebeck. Silly I know. I am not the kind of person that wears handknits to Knit Nights or the LYS. But something about New York State in fall and a wool as far as the eye can see makes me want something cozy.

So this weekend I cast on Lift and Separate from Big Girl Knits. Which meant I got to join the Official Fluffy Sweater-Along on Ravelry which is a great joy. Fluffy knitters unite! Ahem. Too bad they don’t yet have a group (that I have found anyway) for procrastinating, easily distracted knitters. We shall see if there is any chance in hell of my finishing this over the next few weeks. Ha! A long shot, but fun nevertheless.

After all, if you are going to knit a suggestively low cut, wrap sweater it might as well be red! This is in Elann’s Pure Alpaca in the garnet colorway.
